Program Intern
The Program Internship involves a wide variety of tasks and skills, requiring someone who is adaptive and dependable. The Program Intern will gain firsthand experience both developing new public programs and executing established programs as well. This includes such activities as event planning and fundraising, marketing and promotion, as well as outreach to local student, community and professional groups. Another aspect to this internship is the social media efforts of Global Solutions Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Human Rights Network. This includes the use of Facebook, Twitter, Hootsuite, MailChimp, etc., along with blog writing.
Our office environment is small and informal, but dedicated and fast paced. A successful Program Intern is someone who is independent and confident in his or her work. He or she must be willing to take on and learn new things.
Specific activities of a Program Intern may include:
- Representing and speaking on behalf of the GSP / PHRN at different events, meetings, conferences
- Organizing GSP / PHRN led and co-sponsored events
- Social media management and marketing
- Researching local groups, organizations, events, etc.
- Supporting staff on-site at events, presentations
A background in human rights, political science, international relations, or global studies is recommended, but not necessary. Social media management and/or email marketing is preferred. Any graphic / web design or website management skills (ie: Photoshop, InDesign, WordPress) are welcome, but not required. A minimum of 12 hours a week is required to be considered for this internship during the academic year, and 15 hours a week for the summer.
