On March 18, the Panzi Foundation and the Pittsburgh Human Rights Network will be hosting “Help Healing in Congo” at Shadyside’s Alto Lounge from 5 to 8 PM. The event is dedicated to raising awareness and funding for women affected by the ongoing conflict in the Congo. It will feature a discussion led by Dr. Lee Ann De Reus, co-founder of the Panzi Foundation USA, on the work of the organization and on women’s health and human rights issues in the Congo.

The mission of the Panzi Foundation USA is to raise awareness about the crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a primary focus on the acts of violence and degradation inflicted upon women and girls in the Congolese community. The Panzi Foundation USA works in support of the Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, DR Congo, which provides medical and psychological treatment and socio-economic assistance for victims of sexual violence, as well as protective care services for children conceived from sexual violence.

The Pittsburgh Human Rights Network (PHRN), a project developed under Global Solutions Education Fund Pittsburgh, is dedicated to the protection and promotion of international human rights. The PHRN works to support international human rights by raising awareness and educating throughout Western Pennsylvania. The PHRN enthusiastically supports the mission and values of the Panzi Hospital as they work to ensure that victims of sexual violence in Congo receive the treatment and protection they deserve.

We are reaching out to invite you to attend this night of education and activism, and to help spread awareness regarding one of the world’s most profound human rights atrocities in history.

General admission is $10, and $5 for students with ID. This is an 18+ event. 100 % of the proceeds will go to the work of the Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Congo, and to educating young people about global issues all over Western Pennsylvania. Food and refreshments will be served.

If you would like further information regarding “Help Healing in Congo,” please contact Tim Lessick at tim@globalsolutionspgh.org or (412) 471-7852.
